The role of stationarity in magnetic crackling noise

چکیده
We discuss the effect of the stationarity on the avalanche statistics of Barkhuasen noise signals. We perform experimental measurements on a Fe85B15 amorphous ribbon and compare the avalanche distributions measured around the coercive field, where the signal is stationary, with those sampled through the entire hysteresis loop. In the first case, we recover the scaling exponents commonly observed in other amorphous materials (τ = 1.3, α = 1.5). while in the second the exponents are significantly larger (τ = 1.7, α = 2.2). We provide a quantitative explanation of the experimental results through a model for the depinning of a ferromagnetic domain wall. The present analysis shed light on the unusually high values for the Barkhausen noise exponents measured by Spasojevic et al. [Phys. Rev. E 54 2531 (1996)].

Exactly solvable model of avalanches dynamics for Barkhausen crackling noise
We review the present state of understanding of the Barkhausen effect in soft ferromagnetic materials. Barkhausen noise (BN) is generated by the discontinuous motion of magnetic domains as they interact with impurities and defects. BN is one of the very many examples of crackling noise, arising in a variety of contexts with remarkably similar features, and occurring when a system responds in a ...
متن کاملCrackling noise in advanced gravitational wave detectors: A model of the steel cantilevers used in the test mass suspensions
The response of elastic materials to external changing conditions can proceed through small and discrete releases of stress, rather than a continuous and smooth deformation as described by the classical elasticity theory. In a macroscopic elastic body, the sum of all those small crackling events can create a detectable displacement noise (crackling noise). In this paper we consider the case of ...
متن کاملEffect of Physiological noise on Thoraco-Lumbar spinal cord fMRI in 3T Magnetic field
Introduction: Functional MRI methods have been used to study sensorimotor processing in the brain and the Spinal cord. However, these techniques confront unwanted contributions to the measured signal from physiological fluctuations. For the spinal cord imaging, most of the challenges are consequences of cardiac and respiratory movement artifacts that are considered as signifi...
متن کاملGeological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering
This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering
Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...
